CLA Radio 11/17/17: Gratitude (repeat)

The next edition of ConservativeLA Radio (on Duane FM in the Hughniverse, Friday, 11/17/17, 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern, time approximate depending on when the Aftershow wraps up) will be a rebroadcast of the Gratitude show, originally broadcast 11/23/12. (One song has been removed for copyright compliance.)

CLA Radio 11/10/17: Songs About Women, Part 1

What: A fairly straightforward topic: Songs About Women. I got behind on this week’s show by biting off a bit more than I could quickly chew as far as the necessary research. But this is a decent show I had in Drafts that deserves an airing. Hope you enjoy it.

CLA Radio 09/08/17: Screw You, We’re From Texas

What: I started this set list a few weeks ago on a lark. I thought the Ray Wylie Hubbard song “Screw You, We’re From Texas” might make a nice hat rack as it were to hang a bunch of my favorite Texas songs on, most but not all of them by Texas artists.

Then came Hurricane Harvey. And with Harvey came a shitstorm of petty snipes at Texas by people with an ax to grind:

Associated Press: “The University of Tampa has fired a visiting assistant professor who suggested in a tweet that Hurricane Harvey’s destruction is ‘instant karma’ for Texas because it voted Republican.”

New York Daily News: “French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo mocked victims of Tropical Storm Harvey as Nazis who deserved the deadly destruction wreaked on Texas this week. ‘God Exists! He drowned all the Neo-Nazis of Texas,’ the cover of the latest issue reads.”

Salon: “Pastor Kevin Swanson believes that the storm that has ravaged the southeast coast of Texas is a product of God and occurred partly because cities like Houston have not repented.”

And so on.

There were false allegations that Houston’s building boom caused the flooding.

There were thousands of tweets saying Houston is Trump country, let ’em drown. (Houston voted for Hillary Clinton.)

And, of course, the petty sniping at Cruz and Cornyn, by the likes of Peter King and Chris Christie — even as the torrential rains were still pounding all of southeast Texas, not just Houston.

So this set list, although not created specifically in response to Hurricane Harvey, seemed timely.

When: Friday, September 8, 2017; 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern.
