Feminism? Ginsburg Quips About All-Woman SCOTUS, Media Fawns

Wow. Apparently “equality” doesn’t mean what we thought it meant.

Huffington Post:

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Perfect Response When Asked About Women On The Supreme Court

Ruth Bader Ginsburg dropped a truth bomb during a discussion at Georgetown University earlier this week.

The 81-year-old Supreme Court justice, who has attained somewhat of a cult following for her stance on gender equality, told a gathering of law students Wednesday that people often ask her when she thinks there will be enough women on the court.

“And my answer is when there are nine,” she said, as if the question even needed to be asked….

Not only was it the correct answer, but the self-evident one (to a question that didn’t even need to be asked). Oh.

Vox:

notoriousRGBThis video of Ruth Bader Ginsburg talking about feminism is even better than you hoped

Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg spoke about feminism at a Georgetown law school event this week.

It was, as you would expect from the Notorious RBG herself, 100 percent delightful:

RBG on the sheer staggering dumbness of overt sexism: “In the U.S. Attorney’s office, women were strictly forbidden in the criminal division. There was one woman in the civil division. And the excuse for not hiring women in the criminal division was ‘they have to deal with all these tough types and women aren’t up to that.’ And I was amazed! I said, ‘have you seen the lawyers from Legal Aid who are representing these tough types? They are women!'”

RBG on how we’ll know when there are enough women on the Supreme Court: “When there are nine!”

RBG on what she would pick if she could have any talent in the world: “If I could have any talent in the world, any talent that god could give me, I would be a great diva.”

Not only perfect, but 100% delightful. (And apparently women are tougher than men, if I’m following the Justice’s reasoning.)

The Week:

Watch Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg give a perfect response to the question, ‘How many women on the Supreme Court are enough?’

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg spoke to students at Georgetown University earlier this week, and when the discussion turned to the role of women in law, Ginsburg brought up the fact that people ask her all the time: How many women on the Supreme Court are enough?

“My answer is, when there are nine,” Ginsburg says, grinning.

Yes, I realize it was a quip. And I also realize that she likely said far more in that quip than she ever intended to say–certainly the fawning media missed it.
